Philips links up with government departments for LED push |
| |
Philips Electronics, the Indian arm of Netherlands-based health and well-being company Royal Philips Electronics, is linking up with government departments to push LED (light-emitting diode) bulb sales in the country. Google Said to Work on Web TV Plan With Intel, Sony, Logitech |
| |
Google Inc. is working to bring Web software to televisions through a partnership with Intel Corp., Sony Corp. and Logitech International SA. The project, called Google TV, uses Intel chips, with Switzerland’s Logitech developing a keyboard that operates as a remote control. Google, expanding beyond its main Internet-search business, would challenge Yahoo! Inc., TiVo Inc., Rovi Corp. and Microsoft Corp. in delivering the Internet to TVs. Intel, meanwhile, is counting on the consumer electronics market to bolster sales of its Atom chip, which already powers netbooks. The company aims to get Atom into televisions, Blu-ray players and set-top boxes. |

Ncomputing's Chip Brings Windows Applications to TVs |
| |
Ncomputing announced a chip that could turn devices like TVs or set-top boxes into virtual desktops through which users can run Windows applications or access the Internet. The Numo chip contains a dual-core processor based on an Arm design that will allow devices to run Windows multimedia applications when connected to a host machine like a desktop or server, Ncomputing said. The setup uses the company's Vspace software on host machines to set up remote devices as virtual desktops. |

HCL Info launches 100% recyclable notebook for Earth Day |
| |
PC maker HCL Infosystems unveiled its new 'ME Series 40' notebook, priced at Rs 41,500, on the occasion of Earth Hour 2010. The notebook has Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) concentrations of less than 0.1 per cent, which makes the product 100 per cent recyclable and environment-friendly. BFRs are a group of flame retardants, commonly used in electronic products as a means of reducing the flammability of the product. |

Currently there are mobile phones with Bluetooth radio and Wi-Fi network But soon there would be a third wireless networking technology called ZigBee. It eventually might find its way into more devices than Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combined including electric meters, gas meters, remote controls of high-end televisions, etc. In the not-too-distant future, the technology may also be used to control the lights in the homes, monitor the health of elderly parents, or turn off your air conditioner during periods of peak energy use when no one's home. |

Showing wireless operators how they can harness the emergence of broadcast mobile digital television (DTV), LG Electronics today demonstrated three prototype cell phone models that receive the new mobile DTV signals now being transmitted by nearly four dozen broadcast stations in US. With hundreds of stations expected to sign on the air using the newly-minted technology this year and demand for truly mobile, portable DTV reception on the rise, LG showed the handsets to wireless industry executives at the CTIA Wireless 2010 conference in Las Vegas. |

Is Madhya Pradesh the new Battle ground for Hindi Dailies |

In the last two years one of the busiest market for Hindi dailies has been Madhya Pradesh (MP), the second largest state of the country in terms of size and the seventh largest in terms of population (60,348,023). The state has a literacy rate of 64 per cent (census 2001), the number of people who can read Hindi is 29,213,000 and the audience that reads any Hindi daily is 4,770,000 which include 3,608,000 individuals with an urban background. This shows there is a major gap that can be served so it automatically becomes a prominent battle ground for Hindi publications. If we see further the urban part that can read Hindi is 11,181,000 individual so the major potential lies in rural part. |
