  Laser Phosphor Display –A New Laser TV promises efficiency & simple manufacturing
 

A display start-up called Prysm believes that its technology, called laser phosphor display (LPD), has the perfect combination of picture quality, energy efficiency, and manufacturing simplicity to have a chance of breaking through. It consumes a fourth of the power of a liquid crystal display (LCD) with the same brightness and about a tenth of the power of a plasma screen.

Glasses free 3-D television is still a long way from the market

 

Television manufacturers and content producers started out the year pushing 3-D television hard, hoping to ride the wave of success enjoyed by the 3-D movie Avatar. Though glasses-free 3-D is still some ways away, manufacturers hope to entice consumers with a flurry of products that make the best of the difficulties by bringing 3-D content to the small screen.

Apple could jolt the Smart Home Energy Market

 

Apple unearthed what it says is a patent for a smart home energy management system. According to the patent, Apple’s dashboard product would use powerline networking (using the electrical system itself for the communication portion) and specifically the HomePlug standard to enable users to manage the energy consumption of computing products like laptops, iPods, iPhones and printers. While filing a patent on the topic doesn’t necessarily mean Apple will launch such a dashboard, Apple’s efforts could go far just in showing the computing industry how important energy management will be.

Green uses of cell-phone technology will be unveiled next month at the GSMA Mobile World Congress (Barcelona, Feb.15-18) which kicks off with a keynote from Google Chairman Eric Schmidt and winds up with a concert by rock band Duran Duran. In between, hundreds of exhibitors will sport cell-phone innovations, including the FIT, which will be showing its green middleware solution for smarter energy consumption.
