Intelligent Leadership for Building Competitive India

Dr. B. S. Sahay emphasized on the importance of leadership by giving historical examples of Gandhiji and Abrahim Linkon and todays examples like Dhirubhai Ambani, APJ Abdul Kalaam, and Ratan Tata who contributed to the economy because of their leadership quality.
He also says that future of India is in the hands of the students and hence leadership quality is very important.  

Mr. S K. Swamy discussed about the present global financial crisis and said that to meet these challenges there is a need of leadership. He said that we should “transform ourselves to the good human being to build a strong India”.    

Mr. Sudhir Jalan stressed upon two points:

  1. Economic problem that is equally disastrous as Tsunami. He asked that today “Cash is King” but today FII has started withdrawing funds from India.
  2. Solution to this is intelligent leadership who is visionary, participative, transformational, charismatic and quick decision maker. Communication and qualities of speech play a very important role in leadership

 

He gave a message that it is a challenging time and we have to move along with time to catch the opportunity  

Prof. Prem Vrat pointed out the real problem of India and the solutions that:

  1. India is not a poor country but it is a poorly managed country and Indians need to develop most important strategic vision
  2. Indians are intelligent and good leaders but still we are unable to build a competitive India
  3. He emphasized Indian mindset should be changed and we need to learn how to co –operate
  4. Today in complex structure of globalization, customer demand minimum cost and higher quality

SME Exhibition  

SME Exhibition was organized along with the 20th National Convention on 14th & 15th November 2008 to encourage the SMEs to explore the possibilities to manufacture the components/parts and services on a competitive price being outsourced by the Large Scale Industries of Ghaziabad for their finished products. Mr. Venketeshwar Lu, Commissioner Meerut Division inaugurated the exhibition.   Following companies participated and set up their stalls in the exhibition.

Technical Session(I) Intelligent Leadership For Global Competitiveness

Mr. Mahesh Mahajan states the importance of leader and presence of leader inside every person through inspirational poem. He explained some myths and realities of leadership, visible and transformation leadership. He gave emphasis on competitive India by building capability for making India globally competitive & high performance work culture.  

Mr. P A Mittra first shared his past experience and talked about “intelligent manager” He emphasized that one has to globally competitive – low cost and high quality.
He said that he did not adopt change in technology and that happened due to Bhopal Gas Tragedy – result of poor management.  

Mr. Satish Koshal emphasized that leader should be able to sense cease opportunity & synergies. He threw light on intelligence and intelligent leadership, globalization. He stressed upon management of human capital through knowledge management and states that India is a great place of opportunities.

Mr. S S Sharma emphasized that the main mission is to contribute in realizing GMA’s vision and overall objective is to have small and medium enterprises and GMA and large scale enterprise to help in the development of SME. He said about the action plan to display the components, parts and service planned to be outsourced locally and to guide SME. He thanked the participative companies and told that through this initiative Ghaziabad has done a business of Rs. 5000 crores.

Dr D.P. Ghosh said that intelligent leadership should be flexible, motivator and versatile. He said that leadership is required to make Ghaziabad a global city. He laid stress on communication and transportation.  

Mr. A T Raman talked about business excellence and laid emphasis on knowledge and education and told that they are the essentials of life. He stressed on education and social networking through which each and every person is connected. At last, he said that the youngsters have to create capacity with quality double the time.  

Mr. Amit Sachdeva defined leadership and its requirements. He said that the domestic companies are turning to a global company. He gave examples of Reliance and Tata Company. He also talked about the Global business. He laid stress on sales and marketing through which we can grow well.

Mr. Venketeshwar Lu told that when we compare Indian transport with that of others it is not nice. He also talked about caste and creed and told all the business icons spend some money in the society. He told that the concern or thinking should not be narrow. He told that the cycle of business is narrow which should be extended. He concluded that business enterprises and societal enterprises are integrated.  

 

Technical Session(III) Intelligent Leadership For Evolving High Performance Work Culture

Mr. Deepak Malik states about the importance of culture in the organization. According to him communication plays a vital role for a good leadership and removal of barriers of communication is very important. He said that ability to innovate is also necessary. He said that performance is not based without discipline and it is impossible to create high performance in an organization.  

Mr. Prakash Lohia emphasized upon the change that is challenging the leadership that is the global climatic change and technological changes, which is making us uncomfortable. He talked about survival of the fittest. He concluded that if we find for work culture with the theories than it would be nice to meet the global challenges.  

Mr. Rajesh Mehrotra told that how the intelligent leaders deals with the challenges. He told about the role of leader as a psychologist and architect. He also threw light on cultural diagnosis. And different levels of managing culture by management actions, participation, information from others and rewards. At last he said that culture is nothing more than the behaviour of the organization.  

 

Technical Session(IV) Leadership Competencies In Intelligent Organizations

Mr. K. N. Rattan explained the leadership in various contexts like it means thinking through the organization mission and the leaders see responsibility and accountability rather than the rank. He said the leaders are intelligent which means “a person that has the ability to understand, think learn in a very quick manner”. He said a leader should give importance to change and create human energy effectively. He said that leaders should focus on “action and behaviour.” At last he conclude with “your behaviour and way of talking is important competence is required for leadership”.  

Mr. Vikas Gupta discussed about the various leadership qualities like he must be inspiring, able to act in dynamic environment, he learn from the past and relax in panic situation and make good decisions. He told about the two attributes of a leader

  • Concern for people
  • Concern for result.

 

A good leader acts for the organizational goal and not for personal benefit  

Mr. Chetan N Kapur threw light on intelligent leadership. He quoted the example of Maslow’s Theory of need and said that self-actualization is the most important need. He focused on values and cultures and has a capability of learning. He discussed about various leadership styles like empowerment, roles like dreamer and innovator and competencies like energy, personality, trust generator etc.
At last he said that leaders do not operate in vacuum and focused on spiritual indulgence. Intelligent leadership in building the organization is just like the beauty.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar emphasized that for being a good leader the most important thing Is “competencies” and “potential within to be fired” He said that competencies are not strategic and are required to upgraded. He said about global competitiveness that can be achieved by focusing on customer, price, employees, productivity resource management, social responsibility, setting up of short term and long-term goals and effective communication. At last he said that leaders does not require any designations, they are known by names. Leaders are the person who channelizes the resources of the organizations and always look for the opportunities.

Mr. S. R. Aggarwal spoke about technological changes and said that the talent of a good leader is important to change itself according to that. He said that for today Telecom is very important. He also laid emphasis on the small-scale industries and told that 70 % of exports are done by small-scale industries.  

Mr. Sridhar Venkiteshwaran has mainly discussed on the topic

“WINNING THE WAR FOR TALENT: A LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVE”

He said that SME are the entire heart of the organization and talent is the heart soul of any organization. He said that leadership is the most crucial thing of managing talent. He explained the three aspects of managing talents:

  1. Identity talent
  2. Attract Talent
  3. Retaining talent

 

Apart from the various qualities of a leader he told about a new term “LEARNING AGILITY” which means how you deal with a situation first time. He said that employees could retain talent through development, monitoring, compensation, and clear career plan.  

Dr. A. K. Viz talked about the business challenges that are prevailing today and gave the global business overview of oil and gas industry. He disclosed that attrition rate has increased to 10 % today from 2.9% in 2003-04 and attrition is taking place in core areas of the business. He discussed about the work life at EIL and said that due to its rich human resource EIL is at the higher position. At last he talked about the talent management and strategy, career planning and development and E-learning

Mr. Vinay Singhal talked about the different views of many CEOs by giving the example of Wall Mart. He also talked about the top ten reasons to work at Google. He also discussed that employees can be engage to do work in a jolly mood and not forcefully by the rule – “think, feel and act”. He discussed how to retain the drivers and emphasized on the fact that India is an innovative country. He said that India is a place of opportunities, which may lead to achieve success.

Mr. S. S. Sharma by giving the new version of rabbit and tortoise tale explained the importance of being fast and innovative. He also showed the importance of teamwork and He think that we should have transparency and think beyond constraints .He also said that clear communication is required with the people within the organization and with the customers as well.  

Mr. M. K. Sharma told that they have landed a lot of bilateral organizations where clean environment is there. He told about the investment plan
upto Rs. 25 Lakhs for micro enterprise
Rs. 1 – 5 crore for small enterprise
Upto Rs. 10 crores for medium enterprise.  

Mr. Vinod Sharma disagreed with the defined intelligent leadership and talked about the product and services provided to the market. He said that removing 400-500 workers is not intelligent leadership. He talked about the things which are more important than “intelligency”. He believes in SME competition. At last he give the importance of chasing customer value, compassion, clarity and passion.

Mr. Sanjay Nagi said that business should not be carried only for turnover but for value bundle. He said that the purpose of the business should go beyond profit. He laid stress on enhancing the organizations competency. He said that the core purpose of business is the adaptability of global change. He said that instead of doing same thing better and better, innovation should be used as a competitive advantage.

Mr. S M Mittal said that SMEs are facing problems of spending more than the earnings. He said that the value addition is the key to success. He told about the way of earning more and spending less. He said that one should use the time carefully and should set priorities.

Mr. Rajeev Karwal. He emphasized on building quality people as a part of Intelligent Leadership. He stressed on understanding the attitude and behavior of the people and managing them accordingly. He further highlighted the importance of Values & Ethics of the leaders.
