“There is a huge market out there in rural India, which translates to a mind-boggling $25 billion buying power,” according to Mr Rajeev Karwal, Founder & CEO of Milagrow Business and Knowledge Solutions.

He said there is a shift in consumption patterns. India's share of wallet is shifting from basic necessities to discretionary items.

Delivering the keynote address at the meet on ‘Innovative Marketing Trends: Global Enabler for Indian Industry', hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here today, Mr Karwal said marketing experts need to factor in the rapidly changing Indian business environment, with very deep penetration of mobile phones. Mobile commerce holds great promise, particularly with a vast young population hooked to mobile phones.

“There are about 700 million wireless phone users, 60 million Internet users and about 50 million credit card holders. But a good number of youngsters have begun to use mobile phones for Internet usage. This opens up new channels for marketers,” Mr Karwal explained.

Network Networth: Selfless deeds bring smart returns

August 9, 2010
The Economic Times

Economist Raghuram Rajan recently acknowledged the importance of networking in today’s business life stating that many of India’s billionaires have made money by their proximity to government.

And we all know from experience that many others keep good company to get more business and make more money. Indeed, money knows only money. No matter what qualifications you hold and how adept you are in your business or profession, you can’t grow if you aren’t well networked.

After all, job opportunities don’t come begging on their own and business doesn’t grow without social dealings. Networking is an art, which has to be practiced and perfected over a period of time through sustaining relationships with professionals. It goes beyond meeting the right people, as it demands a person to have the capability to cultivate those initial meetings and turn them into productive business associations.

Philips' new design for growth

July 14, 2010
After tying up with Videocon for TV, Philips wants to focus on smaller segments of the consumer electronics market where the Koreans aren’t aggressive Philips wants to grow at double the rate of the country’s gross domestic product. With the government confident of 9 per cent growth in the current financial year, the task for Philips is cut out: It has to grow its business at least 18 per cent. Philips has three businesses in India: Lighting, healthcare and consumer lifestyle. It is the largest player in the lighting industry and has ambitions to grow healthcare — it has selected futuristic products from its global portfolio for India, and has grown through acquisitions. The challenge is in the third category of consumer lifestyle. While lighting grew 12 per cent and healthcare 22 per cent, consumer lifestyle declined 11 per cent in 2009, pulled down by Philips’ TV business.

Milagrow to offer low-cost IT solutions to SMEs

July 8, 2010
The Economic Times

NEW DELHI: Milagrow, a consultancy firm for the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) segment, today launched a slew of low-cost IT solutions, aimed at helping the smaller companies adopt technology.

"SMEs are hesitant to invest in IT infrastructure and solutions because of the high cost factor. We are offering low-cost or free solutions, which will help them become competitive and grow further," Milagrow Founder Director Rajeev Karwal said.

As of now, a lot of these small companies work on pirated software and this programme will help in curbing piracy as well, he added.

The solutions include operating systems, web support, mail server, CRM, finance and accounting solutions.

"Since the solutions are not proprietary of the big software companies, the cost factor allows SMEs, who traditionally have very low IT budgets, to invest in the solutions and grow," he said.
